Random Art Prompt Generator
Generate a random drawing or art prompt, from characters and creatures to environments and abstract challenges -- for warm-ups, practice, or beating a blank page.
About this generator
This generator draws from 84 drawing and art prompts across six subjects -- Character, Creature, Environment, Still Life & Object, Concept & Abstract, and Challenge. Each is a single open brief meant to spark a sketch, painting, or study.
Every result here is drawn using crypto.getRandomValues() -- the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure randomness -- instead of Math.random(), so it's genuinely unpredictable, not just statistically random. Learn more.
What people use it for
Artists use it to warm up, practice a subject, or beat a blank page. It's great for daily sketch challenges, figure- or environment-drawing practice, or finding a fresh idea when inspiration runs dry.
How it works
Generate draws one prompt at random from the pool using the site's cryptographically secure randomness, guaranteed not to repeat whatever result is currently showing in single-result mode. Filtering by subject narrows the pool before drawing.

Common questions
Can I filter by subject?
Yes -- use the filter button to pick one or more of the six subjects, from Character to Challenge. Generate will then only draw from prompts in the ones you've selected.
What's the Challenge category?
Challenge prompts are constraints and exercises -- like drawing with three colors or without lifting your pen -- rather than subjects to depict.
Will it show me the same prompt twice in a row?
Not in single-result mode -- each new roll is guaranteed to differ from the one currently on screen.
Can I generate several at once?
Yes -- use the amount control to draw a batch of prompts to browse or combine.
