Generate a random real job or occupation, for character writing, brainstorming, or a random-fact icebreaker.
This generator draws from 600 real occupations across fifteen industries -- Healthcare & Medicine, Skilled Trades & Construction, Technology & Engineering, Business Finance & Management, Education & Academia, Creative Arts & Media, Legal & Government, Science & Research, Hospitality Food & Service, Retail Sales & Customer Service, Transportation Logistics & Manufacturing, Agriculture & Environment, Protective & Emergency Services, Sports Fitness & Recreation, and Beauty Wellness & Personal Care.
Every result here is drawn using crypto.getRandomValues() -- the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure randomness -- instead of Math.random(), so it's genuinely unpredictable, not just statistically random. Learn more.
Writers use it to give a fictional character a believable job outside the handful they'd default to. It's also useful for career-exploration brainstorming, an icebreaker game ("guess the job"), or filling in a random-occupation field for a form or worksheet.
Generate draws one occupation at random from the full 600-entry pool using the site's cryptographically secure randomness, guaranteed not to repeat whatever result is currently showing in single-result mode. Filtering by industry narrows the pool before drawing.
A sample of what this generator can draw, spread evenly across the full list:
Yes -- all 600 are real, existing occupations, not invented.
Yes -- use the filter button to pick one or more of the fifteen industries. Generate will then only draw from jobs in the industries you've selected.
Not in single-result mode -- each new roll is guaranteed to differ from the one currently on screen.
Both -- the pool spans everyday jobs alongside more specific or less commonly cited occupations.
