Generate a random stock ticker symbol, with its company and exchange, for learning the market, building a study watchlist, or picking one to research.
A ticker symbol is the short code identifying a listed company on an exchange, dating to the 19th-century ticker tape machines where every character cost transmission time. Length used to signal the venue in the United States -- up to three letters for NYSE, four for Nasdaq -- though that convention has largely dissolved. Symbols are assigned by the exchange and can be competed for, since a memorable one is genuinely valuable, and suffixes carry meaning too, marking share classes or preferred stock. The same company can trade under different symbols in different countries, which is why cross-listed firms need an exchange named alongside the code to be unambiguous.
This generator draws from 72 real, well-known stock ticker symbols grouped by sector -- Technology, Consumer & Retail, Financial, Healthcare, Energy & Industrial, and Auto & EV. Each result shows the company behind the ticker and the exchange it lists on.
Every result here is drawn using crypto.getRandomValues() -- the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure randomness -- instead of Math.random(), so it's genuinely unpredictable, not just statistically random. Learn more.
Students and new investors use it to learn tickers and the companies behind them. It's also handy for building a study watchlist, quizzing yourself, or picking a company at random to research -- note it's for learning, not investment advice.
Generate draws one ticker at random from the pool using the site's cryptographically secure randomness, guaranteed not to repeat whatever result is currently showing in single-result mode. Filtering by sector narrows the pool before drawing, and each result shows the company and its exchange.
A sample of what this generator can draw, spread evenly across the full list:
Yes -- all 72 are real, currently-listed ticker symbols for well-known public companies.
No -- it's a reference and learning tool that picks tickers at random. It doesn't recommend anything or show live prices.
Yes -- use the filter button to pick one or more of the six sectors. Generate will then only draw from tickers in the ones you've selected.
Not in single-result mode -- each new roll is guaranteed to differ from the one currently on screen.
