Random Dessert Generator

Generate a random dessert from 56 cakes, pastries, puddings, and confections around the world -- each with what it is and the story attached.

About this generator

This generator plates 56 desserts across five courses -- cakes from tiramisu to tres leches, laminated and fried pastries, puddings and custards, frozen things from affogato to halo-halo, and the cookie-and-confection canon -- each with what it is and the story attached.

Every result here is drawn using crypto.getRandomValues() -- the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure randomness -- instead of Math.random(), so it's genuinely unpredictable, not just statistically random. Learn more.

What people use it for

Answer 'what should I bake this weekend' without scrolling recipes for an hour, pick a dinner-party finale, tour the world's pastry cases, or set the amount to 5 and draft a dessert-tasting menu. Pairs naturally with the Ice Cream Flavor and Candy generators for full sugar coverage.

How it works

Generate draws one dessert at random using the site's cryptographically secure randomness, never repeating the dessert currently shown in single-result mode. Every draw explains the dish and its origin, and the Course filter narrows to cakes, pastries, frozen, and so on.

Common questions

How is this different from the Ice Cream and Candy generators?

Those cover their own aisles -- scoop flavors and sweets-by-the-bag. This one deals the made desserts: things a pastry case, a grandmother, or a weekend of baking produces. Together the three cover the whole sweet tooth.

Which dessert should a beginner bake first?

From this list: bread pudding, brownies, or panna cotta -- all nearly impossible to ruin. The croissants, macarons, and strudel dough you can read through are at the other end of the curve; know which draw you got.

What's the most famous dessert in the world?

Tiramisu is probably the most-ordered Italian export, the chocolate chip cookie the most baked, and crème brûlée the most theatrical. Pavlova causes the most international incidents -- Australia and New Zealand both claim it.
