This generator draws from 100 ready-made excuses across five arenas -- Work, School, Social Plans, Chores & Errands, and Absurd -- ranging from the technically plausible (the Wi-Fi went down) to the proudly impossible (my houseplants unionized).

Every result here is drawn using crypto.getRandomValues() -- the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure randomness -- instead of Math.random(), so it's genuinely unpredictable, not just statistically random. Learn more.

What's the best category?

Absurd, and it isn't close. An excuse that can't possibly be believed isn't a lie -- it's a bit, and everyone is in on it.

Can I use these for a game?

Yes -- a good party format: each player draws an excuse, and the group votes on who delivered theirs most convincingly. Absurd category only, obviously.
