Random Journal Prompt Generator
Generate a random journal prompt from 110 questions across six modes, gratitude to tough questions -- for daily pages, warm-ups, and blank-page rescues.
About this generator
This generator draws from 110 journal prompts across six modes -- Self-Reflection, Gratitude, Memories, Dreams & Goals, Creativity, and Tough Questions -- written to start real entries rather than one-word answers.
Every result here is drawn using crypto.getRandomValues() -- the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure randomness -- instead of Math.random(), so it's genuinely unpredictable, not just statistically random. Learn more.
What people use it for
Daily journalers use it to break the blank-page standoff; therapists and coaches hand prompts out as homework; teachers use the gentler modes for writing warm-ups. The Creativity mode doubles as a writing-exercise deck, and Tough Questions is there for the evenings that call for it.
How it works
Generate draws one prompt at random using the site's cryptographically secure randomness, never repeating the prompt currently showing in single-result mode. The Mode filter sets the depth -- gratitude is a different evening than tough questions -- and the amount control deals a week of prompts at once.

Common questions
How long should I write per prompt?
A useful floor is one honest paragraph or five minutes, whichever comes first. Some prompts will be done in four sentences; the right one on the right day will take the whole page.
What if a prompt doesn't apply to me?
Write about why it doesn't -- that's usually the entry. Or draw again; the generator holds no grudges.
Are the Tough Questions safe for everyone?
They're honest rather than clinical, and meant for self-guided reflection. If a prompt touches something heavy, that's information worth taking to a person, not just a page.
