Random Kingdom Industry Generator

Generate a random fantasy kingdom's primary industry, from agriculture to arcane trade, for worldbuilding.

What are the sectors of an economy?

Economists divide activity into sectors by how far it sits from raw materials: primary extracts them through farming, fishing, forestry and mining; secondary manufactures and builds; tertiary provides services. Later writers added a quaternary sector for knowledge work -- research, information, education -- and sometimes a quinary for high-level decision-making. Development tends to move employment along that sequence, with the share in primary industry falling as economies industrialise and then shifting again into services. The boundaries blur under modern supply chains, since a firm may extract, manufacture and service the same product, which is why national statistics classify by establishment rather than by company.

About this generator

This generator draws from 52 fantasy kingdom economies across seven categories -- Agriculture & Food, Mining & Resources, Craft & Trade, Magic & Arcane, Military & Mercenary, Maritime & Trade Routes, and Knowledge & Culture -- each with a short description of how the kingdom actually makes its money.

Every result here is drawn using crypto.getRandomValues() -- the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure randomness -- instead of Math.random(), so it's genuinely unpredictable, not just statistically random. Learn more.

What people use it for

Worldbuilders and tabletop game masters use it to decide what an invented kingdom exports, trades, or is known for economically -- a detail that shapes everything from its politics to its architecture. It's one of eight Kingdom generators that together make up the Fantasy Kingdom preset, which rolls a complete invented nation in one go.

How it works

Generate draws one industry at random from the full 52-entry pool using the site's cryptographically secure randomness, guaranteed not to repeat whatever result is currently showing in single-result mode. Filtering by category narrows the pool before drawing, and each result comes with a short description.

Common questions

Are these real-world industries, or fantasy-specific?

A mix -- most categories describe real economic activities, while Magic & Arcane is specific to fantasy settings.

Can I filter by category, like only Mining & Resources?

Yes -- use the filter button to pick one or more of the seven categories. Generate will then only draw from industries in the categories you've selected.

Will it show me the same result twice in a row?

Not in single-result mode -- each new roll is guaranteed to differ from the one currently on screen.

Is there a way to roll an entire kingdom at once, not just its industry?

Yes -- the Fantasy Kingdom preset stacks all eight Kingdom generators together into one window for a complete invented nation in a single click.
