Random Rhyming Word Generator

Generate a random word with its rhymes from 100 sets -- a writing tool for lyricists, poets, and anyone stuck on a card.

About this generator

This generator draws a word and its rhymes from 100 sets across five kinds -- Easy & Open, Multi-syllable, Tricky, Perfect Pairs for Songs, and Near & Slant. It includes the famously unrhymable words too, with honest answers: nothing rhymes with orange, purple, month, or silver, and the entries say what songwriters actually use instead.

Every result here is drawn using crypto.getRandomValues() -- the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure randomness -- instead of Math.random(), so it's genuinely unpredictable, not just statistically random. Learn more.

What people use it for

Break a lyric-writing block, finish a birthday poem, teach rhyme schemes in a classroom, or find a slant rhyme when the perfect one is too obvious. Drawing several at once gives you a set of end-words to write toward.

How it works

Generate draws one word at random using the site's cryptographically secure randomness, never repeating the word currently shown in single-result mode. Each draw lists its rhymes, marking near rhymes as such, and the Kind filter narrows to easy sets, hard cases, or slant options.

Common questions

What rhymes with orange?

Nothing in standard English. The near-rhyme 'door hinge' split across two words is the classic workaround, and there's a Welsh hill called the Blorenge if you're desperate.

What are slant rhymes?

Rhymes that don't quite match -- matching consonants with different vowels (heart/hurt) or vowels with different consonants (home/alone). Most modern songwriting runs on them; perfect rhymes can sound nursery-ish.

Which common words have no rhyme?

Orange, purple, silver, month, ninth, pint, wolf, bulb, depth, and film are the usual list. Consonant clusters at the end of a word are where rhyme tends to die.
