Random Fantasy Class Generator

Generate a random fantasy character class, from familiar archetypes to more unusual builds, for your next character.

What is a character class?

A class is a template defining what a character can do -- fighter, wizard, rogue, cleric -- and it exists to give each player a distinct role rather than a slightly different version of the same one. The original Dungeons and Dragons trio maps onto a durable triangle of combat, magic and skills, and most later systems are variations on it. Class-based design contrasts with classless or point-buy systems, where a player assembles abilities freely: classes trade flexibility for legibility, since everyone at the table knows what a paladin does. Hybrid and multiclass options exist to recover some of that flexibility without losing the shared vocabulary.

About this generator

This generator draws from 63 tabletop RPG character classes across three rarity tiers -- Common, Uncommon, and Exotic -- from familiar archetypes like fighter and wizard to more unusual builds.

Every result here is drawn using crypto.getRandomValues() -- the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure randomness -- instead of Math.random(), so it's genuinely unpredictable, not just statistically random. Learn more.

What people use it for

Tabletop RPG players use it to pick a class for a new character, especially when they want to try something outside their usual go-to. It's one of nine Fantasy generators that together make up the D&D Character preset, which rolls a complete character in one go.

How it works

Generate draws one class at random from the full 63-entry pool using the site's cryptographically secure randomness, guaranteed not to repeat whatever result is currently showing in single-result mode. Filtering by rarity tier narrows the pool before drawing.

Common questions

What do the rarity tiers mean?

Common covers the classic archetypes most settings include, Uncommon covers less typical but still familiar options, and Exotic covers classes built for a more unusual build.

Can I filter by rarity?

Yes -- use the filter button to pick one or more of the three tiers. Generate will then only draw from classes in the tiers you've selected.

Will it show me the same class twice in a row?

Not in single-result mode -- each new roll is guaranteed to differ from the one currently on screen.

Is there a way to roll a whole character at once, not just a class?

Yes -- the D&D Character preset stacks all nine Fantasy generators together into one window for a complete character in a single click.
