This generator draws from 105 real islands across five kinds -- Tropical & Reef, Volcanic & Dramatic, Cold & Remote, Storied & Inhabited, and Tiny & Strange -- each with its country or ocean and one line on what sets it apart, from Surtsey rising out of the sea in 1963 to an island with a single house on it.
Every result here is drawn using crypto.getRandomValues() -- the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure randomness -- instead of Math.random(), so it's genuinely unpredictable, not just statistically random. Learn more.

Generate draws one island at random using the site's cryptographically secure randomness, never repeating the island currently shown in single-result mode. Every draw names the country or ocean, and the Kind filter narrows from tropical to Arctic.

Estimates run to about 900,000 depending on where you set the minimum size. Sweden and Finland alone claim well over 150,000 between them.
North Sentinel Island, where the inhabitants have consistently refused contact and Indian law prohibits approach; Surtsey, reserved for scientists; and Ilha da Queimada Grande, closed because of its viper population.
