Random Racing Circuit Generator

Generate a random racing circuit from 162 across Formula One, MotoGP, American ovals and endurance racing -- including the great abandoned ones.

What makes a racing circuit good?

Almost none of the things a spectator would guess. Length and corner count matter far less than elevation change, which is what makes a corner hard to judge and therefore worth watching -- Spa, Bathurst and Laguna Seca are all revered for hills rather than for layout. The second thing is a braking zone at the end of a long straight wide enough for two cars to arrive side by side, which is why a circuit can have thirty corners and still produce no overtaking. The third is run-off. Gravel and grass punish a mistake immediately, so drivers leave a margin; wide asphalt run-off means a driver who gets it wrong loses nothing, which flattens out the difference between a good lap and a lucky one. Almost every complaint about modern circuits being characterless comes down to that last trade, and it was made deliberately: the tracks that punished mistakes properly were the tracks that killed people.

About this generator

This generator draws from 162 racing circuits, filed by the championship each is best known for -- Formula One, MotoGP, American ovals and IndyCar, and the endurance and historic venues. Circuits that no longer host a round are still here on purpose: half the interest in a track list is the ones that were abandoned, and why.

Every result here is drawn using crypto.getRandomValues() -- the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure randomness -- instead of Math.random(), so it's genuinely unpredictable, not just statistically random. Learn more.

What people use it for

Choosing a track for a racing sim or video game session, planning a track-day or motorsport-tourism itinerary, quiz and trivia writing, deciding a random championship calendar with friends, and settling arguments about which circuits belong on a calendar.

How it works

Generate draws one circuit at random from 162 using cryptographically secure randomness, and never repeats the one showing. Filter by series to stay in the discipline you care about. Raise the amount and turn on No Duplicates to build a whole invented season in one press.

Common questions

Are circuits that host several series listed more than once?

No -- each appears exactly once, under the championship it is most identified with, with the crossover mentioned in the description. Silverstone hosts both Formula One and MotoGP and is filed under Formula One; Laguna Seca is filed under MotoGP.

Are closed and abandoned circuits included?

Yes, deliberately. Reims, Rouen, the Targa Florio's mountain roads, AVUS with its brick banking and the old Nürburgring Nordschleife are all in here. Motorsport history is largely the story of which circuits stopped being usable, so leaving them out would remove the most interesting entries.

Can I use it to plan a random racing season?

Yes -- filter to a series, set the amount to about 20 with No Duplicates on, and you have a calendar in a running order nobody chose. It is a common way to set up a career mode in a racing sim.

Which is the longest circuit here?

The Targa Florio's Piccolo Madonie course at 72 km, though for a circuit that held a world championship grand prix it is Pescara at 25.8 km. The Nürburgring Nordschleife's 20.8 km is the longest still in regular use.
