Random Yoga Pose Generator

Generate a random yoga pose from 100 -- each with its Sanskrit name, what it does, and how to get into it.

About this generator

This generator draws from 100 yoga poses across six types -- Standing, Seated & Twists, Backbends & Chest Openers, Inversions & Arm Balances, Restorative & Floor, and Sequences & Breath. Each result gives the Sanskrit name alongside the English one, what the pose works on, and the cue that most often fixes it.

Every result here is drawn using crypto.getRandomValues() -- the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure randomness -- instead of Math.random(), so it's genuinely unpredictable, not just statistically random. Learn more.

What people use it for

Build a practice when you don't want to follow a video, add variety to a sequence you've done a hundred times, put together a short morning routine, or use the amount control to draw five poses and flow between them. Teachers use it to break out of habitual sequencing.

How it works

Generate draws one pose at random using the site's cryptographically secure randomness, never repeating the pose currently shown in single-result mode. Each draw names the pose in both English and Sanskrit, and the Type filter narrows to standing, restorative, or whatever the session needs.

Common questions

What are the basic yoga poses for beginners?

Mountain, Downward-Facing Dog, Child's Pose, Cat-Cow, Warrior I and II, Bridge, and Corpse Pose cover most of what an introductory class contains. Filter to Standing or Restorative & Floor to draw mainly from those.

Should I hold a pose for a set time?

It depends on the style. Vinyasa moves through poses in a breath or two; Hatha holds for five breaths; Yin holds passive poses for three to five minutes. None of them is more correct than the others.

Is it safe to practise without a teacher?

For most standing and floor poses, yes, with attention to what hurts. Inversions and deep backbends are the ones worth learning in person -- the Inversions & Arm Balances filter marks those clearly.
